Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Parent/Caregiver Guide

This guide describes the North Region Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) ADR program. The SELPA supports ADR at no cost to you or the school district.

Why Request Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)?

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or are facing disagreements with the IEP team regarding your child's special education services, you don't have to navigate it alone.

We always encourage you to talk first with your district’s Special Education Administrator to resolve any issues. However, if you are not comfortable with that step, or if you simply cannot reach an agreement on key parts of your child’s plan, the North Region SELPA ADR program is here to help.

Our Alternative Dispute Resolution process offers a free, positive, and informal way to find a mutually agreeable solution. This neutral, supportive process is completely focused on opening up communication, rebuilding trust, and keeping your child’s educational needs at the center of every conversation.
